Travis Pastrana's New Gymkhana Car: A 'Completely Unhinged' Subaru Brat
Gymkhana is back with its latest installment, and it's an even more extreme build than the previous iterations. The iconic Family Huckster, Travis Pastrana's active aero Subaru GL from Gymkhana 12, has been outshone by the newly unveiled 'Brataroo 9500 Turbo.' This 9,500 rpm, carbon-bodied Subaru Brat is a true engineering marvel, showcasing the pinnacle of Gymkhana's creativity.
As with previous Gymkhana builds, Vermont SportsCar (VSC) is behind the wheel, and the specifications are impressive. The 2.0-liter boxer engine, crafted in-house by VSC, now delivers a staggering 670 horsepower and 680 pound-feet of torque. While the exact boost level is unknown, it's clear that this engine has been significantly enhanced. The power is transmitted to all four wheels via a Sadev gearbox, ensuring optimal performance.
The Brataroo's body is a masterpiece of carbon fiber construction, designed with active aero elements similar to the Huckster. The front fenders feature pivoting louvers that adjust to control front aero balance during flight, adding to the car's dynamic capabilities. The rear wing is also adjustable mid-flight, offering two configurations: a high-downforce wing for maximum grip and a smaller wing for more playful, tire-shredding maneuvers.
Khyzyl Saleem, known as The Kyza on social media, is credited with the overall design of the widebody kit, ensuring a sleek and aggressive appearance. Inside the custom Brat, you'll find a restored factory radio and HVAC stack, repurposed to fit the unique requirements of the Brataroo. The HVAC controls now serve a dual purpose, adjusting the active aero system, while the radio and a Uniden CB radio add a touch of vintage charm.
Travis Pastrana himself describes the Brataroo as 'completely unhinged,' and with good reason. It combines the soul of a classic Subaru with cutting-edge technology, pushing the boundaries of what a Gymkhana car can achieve. Every component is designed to withstand extreme conditions, perform breathtaking stunts, and keep coming back for more.
The new Gymkhana video, featuring the Brataroo, titled 'Aussie Shred,' will be released in early December and was filmed in Australia. Given Pastrana's reputation for pushing the limits, expect even more daring stunts and high-risk driving. The question on everyone's mind is: what will a 9,500 rpm boxer engine sound like in mid-flight?
