Luke Keary, a true NRL legend, has made a bold move by turning down a coaching offer from the Newcastle Knights. But here's the twist: he's choosing to return to the club that feels like home - the Sydney Roosters.
In a recent interview with Channel 9, Keary revealed his decision to reject Justin Holbrook's offer to rebuild the Knights. Instead, he's opting for a smaller role back at the Roosters, the team he played for and won two premierships with.
"I'm going back to the Roosters, and I can't wait. That's my home," Keary said with a smile.
But here's where it gets controversial: Keary denied that this move is a stepping stone to becoming a head coach. He wants to stay involved in coaching, but his focus is on guiding the younger players and sharing his knowledge.
"Definitely not," he laughed. "I want to do a bit with the younger guys and pass on some wisdom."
Keary's ambitions don't stop there. He's also interested in exploring the corporate side of the Roosters' operations, having completed some university studies.
"I'm keen to get involved in the corporate side too. I've done some university work, so I'm interested in the business and finance aspects," he explained.
Keary's journey in rugby league has been nothing short of remarkable. After scoring 48 tries in 231 NRL games for the Rabbitohs and Roosters, and winning three premierships, he's achieved more than most could dream of.
"If you told me this when I was knocking around in Burleigh with no contract, I'd have thought you were crazy," Keary reflected.
His gratitude for the people who supported him throughout his career is evident.
"I'm truly grateful for all the people who played a part in my journey," he added.
So, what do you think? Is Keary making the right move by returning to the Roosters? Or should he have taken the Knights' offer? Let's discuss in the comments and share our thoughts on this intriguing decision!
