Netizens’ opinions are divided after a transgender TikTok star and her friend denied responsibility for injuring a stray dog in a car crash in the northern province of Chiang Mai.

The accident witness, later identified as Supithan Hitanon, also shared a video of his confrontation with the TikTok star, better known as Nungty, on Facebook.

In the video, Supithan can be heard asking if Nungty and her friend would check the dog’s condition and seek treatment.

The dog was left injured in a dry canal by the side of the road, but Nungty and her friend allegedly ignored the animal’s condition and focused solely on the damage to their car.

The Facebook page Auttaross (อรรถรส) reshared the video, attracting the attention of Thai netizens and sparking controversy over the case.

The incident reportedly happened at around 5am yesterday, April 6. The transwoman and her friend reportedly travelled from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and had just arrived in the province when the accident occurred.

In the video, Nungty insisted she checked on the dog but claimed she could do nothing further. She and her friend said they would wait for a representative from their car insurance company.

Heated exchange

Nungty also denied that either of them had been drinking. The video captured their exchange:

Nungty: “My friend already told you that we are not drunk, but you continued to accuse us.”
Supithan: “Yes, I got it. But are you not going to check on the dog?”
Nungty: “I’m going to livestream this incident.”
Supithan: “Yes, let’s do it. If you want to livestream this, you can.”
Nungty: “Don’t you know who I am?”
Supithan: “Can you just check on the dog, please?”
Nungty: “I already checked on it and returned to the car to wait for the insurance representative. I don’t know what to do. I’m not a vet. What do you want me to do?”

Nungty also posted the video of her argument with Supithan on her TikTok account, @nungty_22. She captioned it:

“We hit a stray dog with our car, and this man forced us to take responsibility. We were responsible for contacting the insurance company. We could do nothing except wait for the insurance representative.”

Netizens remain divided on the issue. Some condemned Nungty and her friend for being heartless and ignoring the injured animal. Others criticised her for what they perceived as a veiled threat towards Supithan when she said, “Don’t you know who I am?”

On the other hand, some pointed out that stray dogs on public roads are at constant risk, and it is uncommon for anyone to take responsibility for damage caused to a vehicle in such incidents.

Some also criticised Supithan for filming Nungty and sharing the video online without her consent. They argued that the TikToker could potentially sue Supithan for violating the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

Supithan later shared on Facebook that he eventually took the dog to an animal clinic himself. A dog lover volunteered to cover the treatment costs, which amounted to 55,000 baht. Sadly, the dog’s condition remains unstable, and it is at risk of becoming disabled.
