A bold decision by Jorge Martin has sparked debate among MotoGP fans. The 2024 world champion, fresh from a lengthy absence due to a collarbone injury, chose to end his Valencia Grand Prix early, leaving many questioning his strategy.
Martin, who had qualified 17th, was eager to avoid any incidents and serve his penalty for a collision at Motegi. So, he deliberately ran off the track at Turn 1, a move that raised eyebrows. But here’s where it gets controversial: Martin claims it was an “intelligent decision” made in consultation with his Aprilia team.
“When you start a race, you know the risks,” Martin explained. “I saw the perfect spot to exit, and that’s what I did. I didn’t want to be caught up in any crashes, like we saw with Zarco and Bagnaia.”
Despite his early retirement, Martin gathered valuable data on his bike’s setup, which he believes will pay dividends in the upcoming test on Tuesday. He added, “I’m not 100% physically, but I’m improving, and by February, I’ll be ready to take those extra tenths and fight for victory.”
This decision has divided opinions. Some applaud Martin’s strategic thinking, while others question the value of such a short run. What do you think? Is this a smart move or a missed opportunity? Share your thoughts in the comments and let’s discuss!
